After speaking out about Nike and the hiring of Colin Kaepernick for their “Just Do It” campaign, John Rich faced some backlash. The singer is now clarifying his objection

While many of his fans supported his view and are joining John in boycotting Nike, by cutting the swoosh of their socks and burning their shoes, there are many that oppose the country stars stance.

Colin, who has been at the center of the NFL kneeling controversy, announced that he will be one of Nike’s new faces for their 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign.

After hearing the news, John took to Twitter with a message to Nike. “Hey @Nike I guess you made @Kaepernick7 your new “face” of the brand because you love the way his socks look with your shoes? @Reebok here we come. .”

John later released statement clarifying his stance on the Nike and Colin campaign, saying that he supports the right to protest but the issue for him was the disrespect of the police.

“I support every American’s right to protest whatever they want,” John said. “However, if you endorse someone who wears #PIGSOCKS that’s where you lose me. If @nike wants their “swoosh” to be associated with calling our police “Pigs” then so be it. I have a right to not purchase.

“Our police saved lives at the Las Vegas shooting where we played, and the heroism they displayed is second to none,” said John. “We appreciate the job they are willing to do all day, everyday to protect all of us. They are the farthest thing from pigs.”
