Brantley Gilbert and Lindsay Ell join forces for the impassioned new single “What Happens In A Small Town.” Brantley’s latest single details the aftermath of a relationship while living in close proximity to an ex. The accompanying music video for the track brings the song’s lyrics vividly to life.
“What happens in a small town / Stays in a small town / Every back road we’ve ever gone down / Friday night bleachers, Sunday pews / Ain’t a county line mile without a memory of you,” they sing on the chorus.
At the video’s start, Brantley is seen in the middle of the street when a stoplight turns red. While reminiscing of his past, two actors play the part of high school sweethearts who wander the school halls, the back roads and local haunts together before a breakup.
Lindsay later makes an appearance pacing the high school halls alone and playing guitar in the middle of the town’s football field. All the while, she’s singing of the difficulty moving on can be while living in the same town of an ex.
“It’s finally here y’all!! Head on over to @CMT to see my brand new video for “What Happens In A Small Town” with @LindsayEll,” Brantley shares on Instagram.
Upon the song’s release, Brantley raved about the track.
“This song builds and burns,” Brantley previously said in a statement. “It really has that want for someone you can’t have, and having to live in all the places they are.”
He adds, “I was just leaning towards a duet. I’d never done one. We kind of just got excited about it and I don’t think that excitement ever stopped.”
