Carrie Underwood Was Finally Called the Most Successful “American Idol” of All-Time (And She Performed “Cry Pretty” on the Show)

When “American Idol” ended its 16-season run 2 years ago, the show hosted its most famous alumni with performances from Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson and even Kara DioGuardi. Throughout that really long show, I kept asking myself– Kelly or Carrie? Carrie or Kelly?

And though the two superstars don’t like that debate and Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert have to be mentioned just for kicks, it looks like “American Idol” has confirmed that the most successful Idol of all-time is season 4 winner, Carrie Underwood.

The declaration was simple and could’ve been easily missed by any person watching, but right there at the top of the show, as Ryan Seacrest was explaining that Underwood would be serving as the mentor for the Top 5 he said, “we’re proud to have the most successful Idol in the show’s history back on the stage tonight in Carrie…” Just like that– the debate is over.

Underwood helped contestants Gabby Barrett, Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Michael J. Woodard, Cade Foehner and Maddie Poppe sing a song from her catalog before taking the stage to perform her latest masterpiece, “Cry Pretty.”
