Most fans know that Blake made it his mission to inform fans of this tender and heartbreaking ode to Craig’s son, Jerry, who passed away in a boating accident in 2016. He also encouraged them to download the song and has been challenging radio to add it to their playlists.

The song started at No. 75 on the chart…

“Ahhhhh!!!!!!! Y’all did it!!!!! Y’all did!!! You gave @cmorganmusic and this song the shot it deserves! It’s a #1 Country song on@AppleMusic!!!, Blake wrote.

And then it went to No. 1 overall…

“Ladies and gentleman one of the hardest things to ever achieve in music is having a #1 selling song of ALL music ALL genres. You can’t fake it. The song has to touch people. Congratulations @cmorganmusic. This ones for Jerry,” Blake shared.

Of course, Blake isn’t solely responsible for the song’s success. Ellen Degeneres tweeted about it:

“This is why I love you, @BlakeShelton. Let’s get @cmorganmusic to number 1,” Ellen shared.

So did Blake’s sweetie, Gwen Stefani:

Blake’s pal, Hoda Kotb, shared the tweet: “This is AMAZING. Period.,” Hoda shared.

As did Kelly Clarkson. “Y’all please support this song! It’s incredibly moving and it’s real country! Killer song  @cmorganmusic loving this,” she Tweeted.

We also can’t forget that it all began with an amazing song that Craig was inspired to write after
a sleepless night.

“I’d pretty much finished all the recording for my new record. And about 3:30 in the morning, I woke up with that chorus in my head because my wife— it’s just tough. It’s an emotion that never goes away,” Craig tells One Country. “And seeing her cry just breaks my heart, but there’s really nothing I can say or do. I woke up about 3:30 in the morning with that chorus. And so I thought to myself, I need to write this down or I’ll forget it. I felt something was pressing me to get up and write it down. So I got up, I went downstairs to my little office, and I wrote that down. And then I picked up my guitar and I started playing the melody for the chorus that I had heard in my head, that I was dreaming about and went through that. And one thing led to another. Before you know it, I had been down there for about four hours and I’d written that song from beginning to end the way it is right now.”

Following the song’s rapid rise, Craig went on Facebook to express his gratitude.

“WOW! I’m so completely humbled by all the support the world has shown this song,” he said. “Blake Shelton. You are an awesome friend and champion for country music. We love ya, and I cannot thank you enough. The support the entire entertainment community and music fans have shown is a testament to the love that country music embodies. This song is a God thing. My hope is that it reaches all who need to hear it. My son Jerry’s work on earth did not end with his passing. THANK YOU, everyone!”

OK, now it’s on to No. 1 on radio!
