Three years ago, a devastated country music community wrapped their arms around singer, songwriter, and television star Craig Morgan and his family when news broke that his teenage son, Jerry, had died in a tragic boating accident. Now, Craig has channeled that incredible grief into his first new music since that unimaginable loss.

“The Father, My Son, and the Holy Ghost” is an intensely personal song that addresses how those left behind find a way to create a new reality without their loved one. And while the song is about Craig’s unique situation, it’s relevant to anyone who has experienced the ultimate loss.

Craig wrote and produced the song on his own, and he says, “As difficult as this song was to write and as difficult as it is to sing, it gives me strength in my faith in God. My hope is it does the same for others.”

As heartbreaking as the inspiration for the song is, there’s also a great amount of hope and healing.

I cried and cried and cried until I passed out on the floor / And then I prayed and prayed and prayed till I thought I couldn’t pray anymore / Then minute by minute, day by day by God, he made me whole / I know my boy ain’t here, but he ain’t gone,” he sings.

“In the mornings I wake up, give her a kiss, head to the kitchen / Pour a cup of wake me up and try to rouse up some ambition / Go outside, sit by myself but I ain’t alone / I’ve got the Father my son and the Holy Ghost.

The song also addresses that with time comes healing, but the complete healing doesn’t come until loved ones are  reunited in the hereafter.

Prior to giving an impassioned performance of the song on Fox and Friends, Craig said, “It’s tough. It’s tough to talk about. We miss him every day. That’s all we think about when we wake up, before we go to bed, throughout the day, it’s something that is never going to go away.”

He goes on to say, “But we have a lot of faith and it is through our faith that we are able to keep moving and, hopefully, encourage others to be strong and to get through it.”

Our hearts remain with the Morgan family as they continue to honor Jerry’s memory.
