Florida Georgia Line continue to make chart history with “Meant to Be.” Their collaboration with Bebe Rexha holds at No. 1 on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart for the 34th week. The song’s success currently ties Sam Hunt’s “Body Like a Back Road.”
In 2017, Sam’s “Body Like a Back Road” spent 34 weeks in the top position, leading the most time a song has spent at No. 1 since the chart’s inception in 1958. An unprecedented feat at the time, FGL is getting close to besting Sam’s previous record. FGL’s Tyler Hubbard wrote “Meant to Be” with Bebe, Josh Miller and David Garcia.
“It’s safe to say that we all felt like we had something special when we left the studio that night,” Tyler says. “But it was more than just special. There’s no doubt that this song is anointed by the best writer there is, the Lord. With every unexpected surprise in the story of ‘Meant to Be,’ God was showing himself to be stronger than any tradition or genre. I’m so thankful to be a part of this song and humbled more with each week that it remains at the top of the Billboard chart.”
In addition to their record-tying single, FGL have achieved another milestone with “Meant to Be” as the song has also reigned on Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs chart for the most weeks since the chart originated in 1958. “Meant to Be” has spent 90 cumulative weeks on the chart, surpassing George Strait’s previously held title at 84 weeks.
“We are absolutely blown away and extremely humbled to even be on the same chart as George Strait and some of our other heroes and country legends, so it’s wild to see our songs total 90 weeks at No. 1,” FGL’s Brian Kelley tells Billboard. “It’s really hard to wrap our brains around that, but it’s also super-inspiring to get back in the studio and create more music for our fans.”
The crossover country-pop hit also leads the Country Streaming Songs chart for the 30th week having received 15.2 million U.S. streams. Florida Georgia Line’s new single is “Simple.”
