We’ve heard the national anthem sung over and over at many events throughout our lives and no two are ever the same. Kelly Clarkson raised the bar when she took the stage at the Indianapolis 500 to belt out the “Star Spangled Banner.”
This is not news to anyone who follows Kelly Clarkson. The singer proved that she could sing just about anything when she hosted the Billboard Awards earlier this month. But we knew that already. In her opening monologue Kelly broke into a medley of songs including Maren Morris’ “My Church” and Sam Smith’s “Too Good at Goodbyes.” She then turned up the heat by taking on Kendrick Lamar’s “Humble,” Kahlid’s “Young Dumb and Broke and a number of other hits.
Admittedly, we’ve heard Kelly sing the national anthem before, but because she consistently gives such a flawless performance, we’re in awe of the season 1 “American Idol” winner each and every time.
The 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500, known as the Indy 500 and the top level of car racing, got underway at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, May 27. Kelly did the honors, kicking off the main event. What a way to start the already exciting event!
