Without question, Reba McEntire is an inspiration, an influence and a role model for most of the young female artists in country music today, but Kelsea Ballerini might be hoping for something a little more from the singer, songwriter and actress.
Reba and Kelsea had previously exchanged phone numbers, but the younger star, while thrilled to have that connection with the superstar, didn’t want to cross the lines of familiarity and never used it. Then Kelsea recently ran into Reba recently before the “Homecoming Queen” singer boarded a flight to Australia where her husband, singer-songwriter Morgan Evans, is from. The pair spoke, of course, and exchanged pleasantries and then Kelsea jetted off to the land down under.
At the number-one party for “Miss Me More,” Kelsea relayed the story and said, “I get to Australia and I land to a text from Reba saying, ‘Just checking in to make sure you landed safe.’ And I was like, ‘Can I adopt you as my aunt? Can you be my Aunt Reba please?’”
She continued, “I thought it was so kind that she even thought, that it even entered her brain that I was traveling that far.”
Kelsea and Reba haven’t just met before, they’ve also performed together previously. At the 2017 CMA Awards, the pair of top notch vocalists collaborated on Kelsea’s smash from that same year, “Legends.”
Reba returns to this year’s CMA Awards as one of the guest co-hosts with Carrie Underwood and Dolly Parton. The CMAs broadcast live from Nashville November 13 on ABC.
