Kenny wrote “Tip of My Tongue” with longtime pal and co-writer Ross Copperman, who brought a third person into their writing session. “He brought Ed Sheeran in, and he is such a great writer,” he says. “The way creativity works in creative people is so different, but it’s always exciting. As a co-write with a new writer, it’s one of the most fun sessions I’ve done in a long time. I get why people love working with him.”

The country star goes on to say, ““With all the great songs that have been written in this town, I think you always want to do something a little different.” He goes on to say, “I think there’s this moment when you look at someone and you know they contain everything. You want to know everything, consume everything about them. It’s why we say ‘It’s a long way down,’ because you want to know it all. And the best part: we got a melody that feels like what’s going on lyrically. The music matches the words, and you can just drift in it.”

Ed has, in fact, made a sizable foray into country music lately. In addition to working with Kenny on what could be his next gigantic hit, Ed also co-wrote “Parallel Line” with Keith Urban and was a writer on Tim McGraw and Faith Hill’s “The Rest of Our Life.” It has also been reported that Ed has written recently with Kelsea Ballerini, and he and Taylor Swift have been pals for several years now.

“Tip of My Tongue” will be available on July 12.

With all the great songs that have been written in this town, I think you always want to do something a little different. There’s this moment when you look at someone and you know they contain everything. You want to know everything, consume everything about them. It’s why we say ‘It’s a long way down,’ because you want to know it all. I wrote this with two guys that I really respect as songwriters, @rosscopperman and @teddysphotos. The way creativity works in creative people is so different, but it’s always exciting. It’s one of the most fun sessions I’ve done in a long time. And the best part, we got a melody that feels like what’s going on lyrically. The music matches the words and you can just drift in it. #TipOfMyTongue is out July 12 #noshoesnation
