During the finale of “American Idol” there are loads of surprises that the get unveiled throughout the night. This season was no exception. Monday night (May 21) during the finale, LeAnn Rimes pulled off an adorable surprise as past contestants returned to perform for the audience one last time.
Layla Spring, who was eliminated during the Top 24, returned to sing LeAnn Rimes’ “Blue” and she brought along her adorable 7-year-old sister Dyxie. If you recall, Layla had her little sister by her side during the audition process and the judges gave Dyxie a gold ticket to go to Hollywood in the year 2026.
16-year-old Layla and her little sister took the stage to perform “Blue,” each taking turns with the verses. Midway through the song, LeAnn Rimes, who recorded the song in 1996 at the age of 14, surprises the young girls by joining them on stage.
Surprised and shocked but LeAnn’s presence the girls could barely finish the song. Layla screamed, “Oh my gosh,” mid-song. LeAnn gave the girls hugs and kisses and helped them get through the rest of the song.
LeAnn took to Instagram to share the adorable moment. “SO much fun surprising these cuties on @americanidol tonight. Thanks for letting me join you @laylaspring and @dyxiebay!,” she wrote in the caption.
Truly one of the most precious moments in “American Idol” history.
