Luke Bryan has much to celebrate. This weekend the singer became the first country artist to headline Dodger Stadium. He also sold out the venue on Saturday (July 28), which marked his eighth stadium show this summer as part of his What Makes You Country Tour XL Stadium Sized Tour.
“Stadiums are a lot of work,” Luke tells Billboard. “You’ve gotta try to make 50,000 people feel like [they’re in] an intimate setting and an intimate environment. When you’re playing a 15,000-seat amphitheater, everybody’s right in front of you. When I get done with a stadium, I feel like I ran a marathon. There’s no just getting up there and nonchalantly making a stadium show happen. You gotta work hard at it.”
The singer also shared his excitement for the performance on Twitter. “Dodger Stadium changed my life tonight. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here,” he captions a photo from the stage.

The “Most People Are Good” singer has five more stadium shows left on his current tour. Ahead of selling out Dodger Stadium, Luke was presented with eight Million Air Awards for radio airplay by BMI. The honor is bestowed upon songwriters, composers and publishers whose songs have accumulated over one million U.S. broadcast performances.
The singer was recognized for previous chart toppers, “Move,” “Fast,” and “Huntin,’ Fishin’ and Lovin’ Every Day,” all of which received one million broadcast performances. Meanwhile, “I See You,” “Someone Else Calling You Baby,” “Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye” and “This Is How We Roll” received two million in airplay. Another song, “Good Directions,” which Luke wrote for Billy Currington, amassed four million. The combined total airplay of the eight singles is 15 million and is equivalent to 85 years of continuous play.
Luke has a few days off before his tour resumes. This weekend, he’ll play his next stadium show on Aug. 4 when he visits Denver’s Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
