Any night at the Grand Ole Opry is a special night, but if you happen to be there when a country artist is being officially inducted into the great institution, then you really get to witness the significance of this iconic country music tradition. And it was evident on Luke Combs face when he became the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry during his official induction on July 16.

If you remember, Luke was invited by Chris Janson, Craig Morgan and the legendary Jon Conlee during an Opry performance on June 11. The “Hurricane” singer was so overcome by emotion, he tearfully fell into Craig’s arms.

During his induction ceremony, Luke was a bit more composed, although as Vince Gill and Joe Diffie welcomed him into the Opry family with Dustin Lynch, Chris Janson, Craig Morgan and the Gatlin Brothers looking on, the newest member seemed to be fighting back tears and took in every word of encouragement from Vince and Joe.

“If you come here and you’ll invest in the people and this stage, you’ll get back a hundred fold what you ever give,” Vince told Luke.

It was fitting that Vince was one of the Opry veterans to induct this proud new member. Prior to the on-stage ceremony, Luke told the media that his mother and grandmother took him to his first concert, Vince Gill, for his sixth birthday. He admitted that he missed hearing Vinny sing his favorite song, “I Still Believe in You,” because he heard thunder in the distance and started crying, so his mother took him home.

“I’m hoping to get to hear ‘I Still Believe in You’ tonight, maybe, if I can go into Vince’s dressing room and convince him to do that,” he said.

Congratulations Luke!
