Country music fans know that Luke Combs career has skyrocketed since the release of his debut single, “Hurricane,” in 2016. Five number-one singles, a pair of CMA Awards, a Grammy nomination, headlining tours – a measure of success for any young star.
Country music fans know that, but apparently, Rolex dealers in New York City don’t know that.
While Luke was in New York for Jason Aldean’s show at Madison Square Garden, he decided to treat himself to a new watch. He tells iHeart Media’s Amy Brown that the brand was sentimental for him because his grandfather had also purchased one of the iconic timepieces when he reached a level of success.
However, the clerk seemed to question Luke’s ability to purchase one of the luxury watches. “The lady told me, at the store, I asked for this specific model of watch and she’s like, ‘Well, you can’t just get those.’ And I was like, ‘Well, isn’t this a store that sells those?’ And she was like, ‘Well, a lot of people want those.’ And I was like, ‘I know. That’s why I’m here.’
The good-natured singer-songwriter made light of the situation, joking, “Any time that I go into the watch store they’re like, ‘no public bathrooms.’”
He did eventually tell the clerk that he could go get the watch elsewhere, but he had hoped to wear it on stage that night when he opened for Jason at the Garden. That was enough for the worker to magically locate the item that Luke wanted.
As Julia Roberts said in Pretty Woman, “You work off of commission, don’t you? Big mistake. Big. Huge.”
