Maren Morris had a surprise for fans who follow the talented and petite singer-songwriter on social media. The “Girl” singer is apparently making an appearance in a renowned gentlemen’s magazine.

On both Twitter and Instagram, Maren wrote, “Strip it down. Something with Playboy is coming next week.” Of course, photos accompanied the posts and while they were pretty modest, it was obvious that she is topless. She was, though, wearing red jeans, cow-hide high-heeled cowboy boots and a cowboy hat, as she perched in a cool throwback winged chair.

Following the post is a rousing chorus of support from Maren’s country music peers, including Carly Pearce, Lindsay Ell, Kassi Ashton, Leann Rimes, Danielle Bradbery, and Maren’s proud celebrity trainer, Erin Oprea. And while there seemed to be some negative comments as well, Maren or her page’s administrator’s deleted those comments.

Her husband, singer-songwriter Ryan Hurd, also shared the photo on his Instagram page with the caption, “taken…sorry boys and girls.”

Seeing his post, Maren commented, “Potential Christmas card idea?”

While most fans supported Maren’s choice to do the piece, which does also include an interview with the highly respected magazine, a few voiced negative thoughts including revoking their support. Some, though, had quite thoughtful conversations about being sexualized or empowered by the work.

Interestingly, the day after Maren shared the photos, the BBC posted a story online titled “Maren Morris: Country music has a problem with sexuality,” and while the piece does briefly touch on some of the sexier tracks from Girl, it’s mostly about the great stand that the singer is taking for women being heard in the format.
