Fans were clamoring for Maren Morris to release “The Bones” since her sophomore album, Girl, debuted in March. And now those fans have a new music video to enhance their enjoyment of this powerhouse single.
It could have been a challenge for Maren and her team to create a visual piece to match the lyrical meat of this beautifully thoughtful song about the strong foundation that is needed in a successful relationship. However, instead of going with an obvious script that may have looked contrived or a conceptual piece that may have been confusing, the director took his own left turn and created a stunning art piece.
Shot in Hawaii on The Road to Hana, director Alex Ferrari utilized vintage Super 8 film to give the end piece a tooth or texture not typically seen contemporary and more polished video shoots. More mature viewers of the video may recognize the feel from their own home movies.
Alex then created a lovely visual bed for the song to rest on that included breathtaking shots of the island’s natural surroundings, along with Maren and her husband, Ryan Hurd, enjoying the tropical paradise.
Maren shared a clip of the video on her Instagram and said, “The Road to Hana is beautiful but a hell of a trek… kind of like the most meaningful & lasting human relationships we get to have. This is our journey on film for “The Bones” directed by our friend and Maui aficionado @AlexMFerrari.”
According to Wikipedia, Hana Highway is a 64-mile stretch in east Maui that connects Kahului and Hana. It takes 2.5 hours to drive the narrow route which includes 59 bridges—46 are single lanes—and 620 curves.
