Miranda Lambert and the MuttNation Foundation are surprising 50 local animal shelters across the country with some cold hard cash.

MuttNation, an organization that Miranda and her mom, Bev, started in 2009—with the mission of ensuring that as many dogs as possible would have a safe and happy place to call home—raised $189,000 through their Mutts Across America program. Each shelter was given a check in the range of $3000-$5000.

“I am amazed and humbled by the great work these shelters do, and so honored to be able to support their critical efforts on behalf of rescue animals,” said Miranda.

The Mutts Across America: 50 States/50 Shelters initiative was founded by Miranda’s mom, Bev Lambert. To date, the initiative has awarded over 200 shelters with more than $775,000.

“The shelter selection process proved to be more complex than initially thought. During our first year we soon discovered that all shelters are not created equally,” Bev said in a statement. “We feel we have now developed a criterion list through which we hand pick the ‘best of the best’ shelters. Miranda and I, along with our board of directors, are honored to join forces with them in our mutual drive to benefit Mutts Across America.”

In addition to the money, Miranda is also donating supplies to local shelters as she criss-crosses the country on her Livin’ Like Hippies Tour. In each city throughout the tour, Miranda and MuttNation will collect dog food, treats, supplies & cash donations from fans for local shelters.
