Television host, Texas swing giant and front man for the Grammy award-winning Asleep at the Wheel, Ray Benson, is the most recent celebrity to have shared the news that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Ray shared the difficult news with a post on his Facebook page, while also using the opportunity to take a political jab. He wrote:

“Well folks, the bad news I’ve contracted the coronavirus!! Been feeling tired for about 10 days! Went to be tested on the 21st! No tests so went home! Went back yesterday feeling the same tired, out of it and they tested. First call this mornin from lab sayin ‘You got it!!’ Hoping for the best, don’t have the usual symptoms, but feel tired, headache, no fever, no cough!! I’ll be ok, sure do miss playin music and seeing everyone! Stay well, this shit’s serious!! I have been alone for the most part and wore mask, washed hands, used hand sanitizer, still got it! Do not listen to right wing BS!”

Ray, who is originally from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is best known for performing his Bob Wills style of Texas swing music with Asleep at the Wheel. With his rumbling baritone voice and statuesque 6-feet, 7-inch frame he seems an imposing figure, but his warm wit and hearty laugh imply otherwise. Ray played host to Texas Music Scene TV — a production that shined s spotlight on the hottest acts in the Texas music scene.
