Oh, Sam Hunt, he’s not country they say. Well, wrong. In 2007, Sam was the starting quarterback for the University of Alabama-Birmingham Blazers and just dabbling in country music. He had a not-so-great haircut, a beat-up acoustic guitar and that same great smile.

The Georgia native compares sports (and football) to music in the interview, “Sports and football sometimes is stressful, football is really intense… music is more laid-back, chilled out type of activity.” Not sure if he’d say the same thing today, but after watching this video we’re kind of glad Sam didn’t make it as a football player.

Sam was recently nominated for three CMA Awards and will perform at the 49th annual affair. Sam collected nominations for Single of the Year for “Take Your Time,” which was produced by Zach Crowell and Shane McAnally; and Song of the Year for “Take Your Time.”
