Jennifer Nettles is set to star in another film. The Sugarland singer has been selected as one of the actors in the upcoming Harriet Tubman biopic, “Harriet.”

Deadline reports that the film will begin shooting next month in Virginia. The biopic will star Tony, Emmy and Grammy Award-winner Cynthia Erivo (“Widows”) as Harriet while Leslie Odom Jr., Joe Alwyn, and Clarke Peters will also star in the film.

The biopic’s storyline will follow Harriet’s escape from slavery and mission to free dozens of slaves through the Underground Railroad, according to Deadline. Focus Features and Universal Pictures International will distribute the film worldwide while Debra Martin Chase with Martin Chase Productions, Daniela Taplin Lundberg with Stay Gold Features and Gregory Allen Howard will serve as producers.

“This is the story of a seemingly powerless woman who accomplished the extraordinary to save her loved ones, and in the process became a leader of and inspiration for her people,” said producers Debra Martin Chase and Daniela Taplin Lundberg, in a joint statement. “While Harriet Tubman is a household name, most people don’t know the breadth of her story – not only was she a conductor on the Underground Railroad, but she was a spy for the Union army and remains one of the few women to have led an armed expedition in US history.”

This is far from Jennifer’s acting debut. Previously, she played the role of Dolly Parton’s mother, Avie Lee Parton, in the two “Coat of Many Colors” television movies as well as starred as Roxie Hart in “Chicago” on Broadway. No official release date on “Harriet” has been announced.
