You have to give it to Taylor Swift. As high glam, sophisticated and fantastical as her life seems, she remains the same normal, humble and often hysterical young woman that her lifelong fans got to know in the early 2000s. And that was made abundantly clear when she recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
There to promote her new album, Lover, the conversation between Taylor and Jimmy went off the rails when he revealed that her mother, Andrea, had given the late-night talk show a clip of Taylor, post-lasik surgery, under the influence of some pretty stout painkillers.
Although Taylor’s face is somewhat obscured by a sizable pair of goggles, it is obvious that she is under a great amount of distress when she attempts to separate a single banana from the bunch and the endeavor goes south. She throws back her head, and declares, “This wasn’t the one I wanted.” Mom comes to the rescue to help her daughter who is then overly-concerned about the abandoned banana and its fate. “Leave it, leave it. It’s mine,” Mom says. “But it doesn’t have a head,” Taylor innocently replies.
As the singer retreats to her bedroom it sounds as if she is saying, “Sometimes it doesn’t go your way.” And her dramatic tone makes us feel as sad for the banana left behind as if it were the last fruit picked for kickball.
Later Andrea goes into Taylor’s bedroom where the singer is laying in bed trying to eat her fruit. She warns her, “Don’t fall asleep eating a banana, OK” and Taylor replies, “I’m not asleep, my mind is alive.”
After watching the hilarious footage, Taylor told Jimmy, “She was kind enough to drive me there, but cruel enough to give it to you?” When the show host asked the singer to tell her mom thanks for the footage, Taylor feigned anger and replied, “I’m gonna tell her something.”
Taylor also addressed the recent social media hashtag “#DrunkTaylor” admitting that she goes from “zero to legitimately thinking I’m a wizard in two drinks.” She added, “Thinking about the fact that that went as far as it did and then we’ve got this happening.”
“This is hashtag ‘Lasik Lover,’” Jimmy joked.
