Growing up, I was fortunate enough to have a strong relationship with both of my parents, and it has only gotten stronger as I’ve gotten older– especially with mom. Now that I’m a wife and will eventually be a mom, there are so many things I can now see about my mom that I admire and that she’s taught me over the years.

In an interview with Southern Living, Thomas Rhett’s wife, Lauren Akins, shared the things her mom, Lisa, taught her growing up and how they’ve helped her be a good mom to her own daughters, Willa Gray and Ada James.

“Her spirit is what I love most because its the sweetest and it’s unbreakable– truly,” Lauren said of her mom. “We could be in the worst situation ever and she would come up with some amazing, positive reason why its happening or make us all laugh.”

“She’s always encouraged me that I can do whatever it is that I need to do or want to do, and that whoever I am am being true to myself is the best person that I can be.”

Now that she has attended various award shows where high-profile celebrities are in attendance, her mom’s advice rings truer than ever.

“Being in the room with Beyonce and Jay-Z, you’re in this room with these poeple that the world just adores,” Lauren started. “I can always hear her saying, ‘Just be who you are, that’s who you’re meant to be.'”
