Danielle Bradbery and Thomas Rhett are teaming for a duet called “Goodbye Summer” that will have you wanting more from the pair.
The new tune, originally called “Hello Summer” with Danielle making it a solo effort is featured on her latest album I Don’t Believe We’ve Met” and was written by TR, Rhett Akins, Julian Bunetta and Jaren Johnston.
In the new version, titled “Goodbye Summer” Thomas Rhett adds his vocals to the song where Danielle kicks it off taking the first verse and chorus and TR picks up the next verse.
“And it was hello summer, goodbye to my heart / Blue skies and blue eyes, a hell of a way to start / Letting him go would be the hardest part / Hello summer, goodbye to my heart / To my heart,” they sing in the chorus.
“When I got in the studio my sole job on this song was trying to not sound terrible up next to how awesome Danielle’s voice is,” Thomas Rhett told PEOPLE about the collaboration. “I truly believe that Danielle is literally one of the best singers that I have ever heard in my entire existence. So when I got on that song, there was a part of me that was going, ‘Do I sing this verse down in my register or do I try to copy Danielle’s melody on the second verse?’”
Danielle took to Instagram to share the moment she first heard the song.
“Your love for “Goodbye Summer” already this morning is overwhelming,” she wrote. “I first heard this song as a @thomasrhettakins demo. I jammed to it all the time before I ended up cutting it. When we decided to make a new edit for radio, I couldn’t stop thinking about his version and how much perspective the male vocal would add. Grateful to get to create music with the people I love and share music with people like you.”
This isn’t the first time the duo have joined forces. TR and Danielle meshed their voices on “Playing with Fire” from Thomas Rhett’s Tangled Up album.
Let’s hope there will more of this in the future.
