Just in time for Christmas, Mark Wills received the present of a lifetime. Thursday night, the “Don’t Laugh at Me” singer was invited to join the hallowed halls of the Grand Ole Opry during a performance.

Vince Gill did the honors when he walked out on stage to talk to his friend before asking him to join.

“We at the Opry would like to ask you to become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry,” Vince said. “This boy has been the greatest supporter and proponent of what the Opry stands for,” Gill continued.

“I would love to be the next member of the Grand Ole Opry,” Mark said before closing with his 1998 hit “Don’t Laugh At Me” as Opry members joined him on stage.

Mark is best known for his eight Top 10 hits including “19 Something,” “Wish You Were Here” and “Don’t Laugh At Me.” His Opry induction will take place on Friday, Jan. 11, 2019.

Earlier in the night, the Opry recognized Opry staff musician and Musicians Hall of Famer Jimmy Capps’ on his 60th anniversary of performances at the Opry. After inviting Jimmy to the stage, Marty Stuart and  Vince Gill announced that the band room at the Grand Ole Opry House is officially being named the Jimmy Capps Music Room.

It was an emotional night at the Opry, all around.
