Country music has long had the discussion about too few women being played on country radio. It’s true, there is a disproportionate amount of women to men in country music. However, the women that we do have, and we have room for more, are kicking butt and taking names.

Martina Mcbride, Reba McEntire, Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Shania Twain and Sara Evans lead the pack with pro-women anthems that can veer towards sassy and/or controversial. But they all preach girl power and country music fans count on them to represent.

In honor of International Women’s Day (March 8) we dug through the archives to find some of our favorite female empowering songs to get us through the day. These women are feisty, sassy and strong and we love it.

10. The Band Perry // “Done”

Yes, we know Neil and Reid are not women, but they are led by a woman. How’s that for empowerment? And Kimberly nails the song’s theme with attitude and pure feisty-ness. She’s over it and she’s not taking anymore. “I don’t want to be your just for fun, don’t want to be under your thumb. All I want to be is done,” she croons. All that’s left to say is Buh-Bye.
