10. Various Artists // Keith Whitley: A Tribute Album

The death of the great Keith Whitley is still felt tremendously throughout the country music community. Five years after this passing, a bevy of country stars, including Alan Jackson, Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs and Mark Chesnutt, joined together to pay tribute to his work, covering his most well-known songs. Krauss’ version of “When You Say Nothing at All” is a definitive highlight, along with “Ten Feet Away” (Diamond Rio), “Little Boy Lost” (Daron Norwood) and “I’m No Stranger to the Rain” (Joe Diffie). Meanwhile, four previously unreleased Whitley songs were add, including standout “The Comeback Kid.” Not only did it serve as an apt reminder of Whitley’s talent but it bolstered the neo-traditionlist movement which was hitting its stride at the time.
