Girls Night Out! CMT Honors Females Only During “Artists of the Year” Celebration

-

“Who run the world? Girls.” CMT is holding true to the lyric from Beyoncé’s hit, “Run the World (Girls),” by honoring the women of country music during their annual 2018 Artists of the Year ceremony.

For the first time ever, the “Artists of the Year” celebration will honor all female artists. In a time when the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements are in the forefront of our culture and women are finding their voices to speak up, CMT is adding to that voice by showcasing country’s top women.

The 2018 honorees include Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert, Kelsea Ballerini, Maren Morris, Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman, and Lady Antebellum’s Hillary Scott.

Artists of the Year celebrates the accomplishments of country’s top artist for the year.

Last year’s award show was used as a night of hope and healing through the power of music following the devastating Hurricanes that hit the country and the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Honorees Keith Urban, Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line, skipped the acceptance speeches and opted for words of peace and healing.

As the women of country have spoken up about the inequality of female artists in the genre, the special shines the spotlight on the power of women.

Past winners of the honor include Carrie Underwood, Thomas Rhett, Blake Shelton, Little Big Town, Sam Hunt, Kenny Chesney, Miranda Lambert, Hunter Hayes, Lady Antebellum, Toby Keith, Eric Church, Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley and Zac Brown Band.

The 90-minute special will premiere on Wednesday, October 17 at 8:00 PM, ET/PT only on CMT.
