With 22 performances and just 8 award presentations, CMT truly made their annual awards show a party. And while much of the fun did take place on one of the show’s multiple stages, some of the most fun moments took place off of the television cameras.

It looked like Carrie Underwood and Mike Fisher arrived to their seats relatively early, but it might be a good thing. It looks like it took Carrie a minute to figure out exactly how to sit down in her gorgeous dress.

Of course, Mike, who was celebrating his birthday that night, didn’t notice. He was all the heart eyes for his gorgeous date.

To say Chris Lucas and Preston Brust of LoCash have gone to the dogs might seem a bit extreme, but a peek backstage at the CMT Awards provides all the evidence we need.

Luke and Caroline Bryan are always good for a chuckle and backstage at the award show didn’t disappoint.

Much like everyone else in the audience and watching on TV, the fellas from Eli Young Band had a strong reaction to Little Big Town’s performance of “The Daughters.”

Speaking of Little Big Town, Kimberly Schlapman and Karen Fairchild gave Morgan Wallen a little good-natured ribbing about his mullet during the show, which he took with a grain of salt, a big smile, and a shake of his signature locks. In fact, he couldn’t resist getting a photo backstage with Kimberly wearing her own mullet wig. The typically curly-haired blonde even commented on the picture: “I could get used to this.”

We aren’t sure if Chris Lane actually made it down the blue carpet in this get-up, but we applaud him for his valiant effort at honoring 90s country music.

One of the most talked about moments of the night did take place on stage though. After Zac Brown Band was named the winner of the Group Video of the Year category. While accepting the trophy for the fan-voted award, frontman Zac Brown used the moment as a platform to drop an F-bomb on “the haters” leaving many puzzled as to who these haters are.
