It’s not every day that Blake Shelton gets to sit down and play an acoustic set for fans. And he definitely doesn’t get to do it at the Ryman Auditorium very often, so when his longtime friend and legendary songwriter Craig Wiseman asked him to headline the 12th Annual Stars for Second Harvest benefit show, Shelton agreed to it pretty quickly.
In 2013, Shelton released “Boys ‘Round Here” as the second single from his
Based on a True Story… album. The original version features backing vocals from the Pistol Annies and RaeLynn, but since they weren’t at the show, Wiseman performed their parts.
Before starting the song, Wiseman told the story behind how he co-wrote it with Dallas Davidson and Rhett Akins saying, “I told the guys nobody with any sense or any career seriousness at all will ever cut this song and the next thing I heard was, ‘Blake loves this song!'”
The song was Blake’s 14th No. 1 hit, but this version could easily be the most entertaining version because Blake and Wiseman are that entertaining.
Wiseman’s annual show has raised almost $900,000 and provided over 3.5 million meals to those in need in Middle Tennessee.
