Most country artists know a thing or two about hard work, that’s why Blake Shelton rose to the occasion when his good pal and Today show host, Hoda Kotb, shared a story of two hard-working nurses near New Orleans.

According to Today, mother-daughter nursing team Bridgette and Sylvia Robinson have been on the front lines in the coronavirus pandemic as a nursing assistant and nurse respectively. Unfortunately, Bridgette contracted COVID-19 last month and was admitted into the ICU and placed on a ventilator for several weeks. Fortunately, she recovered and she credits her grandson for the motivation.

“All I could think about was my grandson,” she said. “I was just thinking ‘My baby needs me. He needs me. He loves me. I gotta get back to him.’” Daughter Sylvia adds that the credit also goes to “God, prayers and her fight for life.”

To celebrate Bridgette and Sylvia’s dedication to healing those in one of the hot spots for COVID-19, Hoda enlisted the help of Blake to honor them with their own personal performance by the country music superstar.

“The whole time I heard you guys talking you keep throwing it back to God and I love hearing you say that,” Blake said. “So I want to dedicate this song from me to you guys as nurses and being out there on the frontlines. I think this song really speaks to your relationship with each other, if you ask me.” And with that, he performed his hit single, “God Gave Me You.”

Today is recognizing National Nurses Week by shining a light on some of those special care givers and doing their best to show them how important they are, especially during these difficult times.
