Blake Shelton Thanks Rascal Flatts for “Absolutely Nothing” During CMT Awards Speech

-

It was another big night for country music when Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena hosted the
annual CMT Music Video Awards on June 6, and Blake Shelton came out with the evening’s
most coveted award, Video of the Year, for “I’ll Name the Dogs.”

But prior to that, Blake also received the trophy for Male Video of the Year, and the country star
couldn’t resist making a good-natured jab at his pals, Rascal Flatts. The trio, along with “This Is
Us” star Chrissy Metz presented the category and called the winner. During his acceptance
speech, Blake appropriately thanked the fans for voting. But he then hilariously thanked Rascal
Flatts… “for absolutely nothing.”

Now, Rascal Flatts fans shouldn’t be upset by Blake’s comment. He is great friends with Gary,
Joe Don, and Jay of the hit-making trio, and in 2005 and 2006, Blake and the Flatts boys toured
together on both the Here’s to You Tour and the Me and My Gang Tour. In addition, both he and
Gary are avid hunters, so we’re betting there are plenty of conversations about camouflage and
deer stands when the pair are together.

That wasn’t Blake’s only time under the spotlight at last night’s show. In addition to performing “Turnin’ Me On” from his Texoma Shore album, the Oklahoma native was named the Video of the Year winner by Keith Urban. It’s worth mentioning that in both of his speeches, Blake mentioned the new generation of young country stars saying, ““I can’t even believe I’m in this category with this new group of country artists that are coming up that are unbelievable.” Of course, he also gave a nod to the generation of artists that were making hits before him when he added, ““There’s a guy in the video that you kids need to know about. His name is Jimmy Olander. He’s the lead guitar player for Diamond Rio, and he played the guitar solo.”

The week is just getting started for Blake, who also celebrated the grand opening of his Ole Red
bar in downtown Nashville. On June 8, the talented cowboy will take the stage at Nashville’s
Nissan Stadium to headline the evening’s performances at CMA Music Festival.
