Congratulations go out to Blake Shelton and his Team Blake contestant, Todd Tilghman. Todd’s incredible run on the season 18 of NBC’s The Voice landed him in first place on the hit reality show and gave Blake his 7th win.

Todd, a minister from Meridian, Mississippi and the father of eight, was the season’s first four- chair turn with his rendition of Bob Seger’s “We’ve Got Tonight.” At 42, he is the oldest contestant to ever win The Voice, but his high energy and dynamic performances were reflective of a much younger singer. In fact, his presence on stage led Blake to coin the phrase “holy hop” to describe his contestant’s enthusiasm.

Although Todd leaned heavily towards country music, his rich, raspy voice lent itself to a variety of songs, including Travis Tritt’s “Anymore,” Peter Cetera’s “Glory of Love,” and MercyMe’s “I Can Only Imagine” from the finale.

His performance of Collin Raye’s “Love, Me” during the Live Semi-Finals endeared Todd even more to his growing legion of fans. Broadcasting through a live feed from his Mississippi home, his children surrounded him on the floor, with one of his youngest curled up asleep in a bean bag chair, sucking her thumb.

Always humble and grateful, Todd seemed to be genuinely surprised with every level that he advanced. A testament to how talented all of this season’s contestants were, Blake used his “save” to keep Todd in both the Battle and Knockout rounds, and during the Live Play-offs and Semi-Finals, he was saved by public vote.

During the finale performances, in addition to “I Can Only Imagine,” Todd performed the original song “Long Way Home,” which skyrocketed up the iTunes’ chart, landing at number-one the day after its debut on The Voice.

Congratulations to Todd and Blake, and to all of the Top 5.
