As Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman faded from the screen and only a photo of Colette Sulcer proudly holding her daughter, Jordyn Grace came on the screen during Hand In Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Relief, it went silent before a familiar voice was heard.
The familiar voice in the unfamiliar place was Usher, standing in the Circle at the Grand Ole Opry next to his friend Blake Shelton.
The always unlikely duo, who became friends on “The Voice,” performed the legendary, “Stand By Me” with help the help from the audience in Nashville as they did their part to help those in need after Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
Sulcer, a nurse, lost her life in the floodwaters of Hurricane Harvey, yet 3-year-old Jordyn Grace survived.
In 2013, Shelton put on Healing in the Heartland– a benefit concert for victims of the F-5 tornado which struck Moore, Oklahoma and killed 24 people, including seven children.
Shelton called on Usher to help him perform “Home.”
After the show, Usher shared some behind-the-scenes from the evening calling Shelton a “friend4life.”
At press time, $14.5 million had been raised for the victims of Hurricanes Harvey and Irma.
