“American Idol” Made Caleb Lee Hutchinson Sing Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant To Be” (Instead of Classic Country) and He Nailed It

When Caleb Lee Hutchinson auditioned for “American Idol” he did with a Chris Stapleton written song that was originally performed by the SteelDrivers– “If It Hadn’t Been For Love.” You know the one (Adele also recorded it for her 21 album.)  His second song on the show was another Stapleton tune followed by Josh Turner’s “I’ll Be Your Man.” So, this is where I don’t know if “American Idol” is trying to keep him around and introduce him to new music in a subtle way or what because going from Josh Turner to Florida Georgia Line’s “Meant To Be” isn’t exactly a smooth transition.

However, while paired with Bebe Rexha, Hutchinson seemed okay with the song choice though he did ask for help being “swaggy.” Which does make you wonder if Stapleton or Turner have ever asked anyone that question?

Hutchinson was also given Thomas Rhett’s “Die A Happy Man” during the Top 24 round, which is not a serious country song, but it super popular.

Despite the curveball on song choices, Hutchinson did make it through to the Top 12 on “American Idol”
