In a little over a year, country newcomer Canaan Cox is hoping to make his mark in country music with the release of his self-titled EP, featuring his debut single, “Lie.”
While he’s off to a good start, the North Carolina native took a break from his latest release to get into the Christmas spirit and record one of his favorite Christmas songs.
“Christmas is literally my favorite time of year! I’d be lying if I said I didn’t crank out a Christmas tune or 2 way before Thanksgiving even came around,” Canaan told One Country. “I chose ‘Merry Christmas, Baby’ because it’s one of my all time favorite Christmas songs and I wanted to wrap my own spin on it. And, one of my biggest influences musically covered it and it’s always first on the playlist. That influence being… Hanson. Of course Otis Redding and others have killed it but Hanson’s version has been my jam forever.”
The video features Canaan, decked out in bow tie and vest, performing in front of a microphone, as an attractive lady, dressed in a sexy Santa outfit, bestows the singer with gifts and a kiss. As snow begins to fall, the two further their connection with a dance and a few flirtatious moves.
“The girl in the video is actually a model/actress around town,” adds Canaan. “And, we had been talking and been out on a few dates before hand. It was a last minute add on to be honest, but I think having that fun, flirtatious vibe in the video takes the focus off of my Justin Timberlake wanna-be dance moves.“
Canaan’s version of “Merry Christmas, Baby” is a fun-loving way to get in the Christmas mood.
