One performance stood out during the American Music Awards Tuesday night (Oct. 9) and that was the emotional performance by Carrie Underwood.
Carrie returned to the AMA stage for the first time since 2015 to perform “Spinning Bottles,” featured on her latest album Cry Pretty. Dressed in a long flowing gown, Carrie stood centerstage on a rotating platform as bottles topped with candles spun around her.
The tune, written by David Garcia, Hillary Lindsey, addresses the topic of substance abuse.
“Round and around and around they go / Will it end? Nobody knows / She’s all cried out on the kitchen floor / Spinnin’ rooms, spinnin’ wheels, spinnin’ outta control /Spinnin’ bottles, spinnin’ bottles,” Carrie sings in the chorus.
Carrie gave an emotional performance that had the A-list audience rise to their feet, showing their approval with a standing ovation. In addition to her performance, Carrie took home Favorite Female Country Artist.
“Such a wonderful night! I am honored and humbled by the love I received from you all tonight. I made absolutely no sense in my speech and didn’t say half of what I should’ve, but I want you all to know that your support means everything to me!, Carrie wrote in an Instagram post following her win.
