You know her, you love her and you voted for her. Chevel Shepherd took home the win on Season 15 of “The Voice,” after defeating Kirk Jay, Kennedy Holmes and Chris Kroeze. Next, the singer headed home to New Mexico to perform for the newly elected Governor.
As she prepares to work on her new album with her coach and mentor, Kelly Clarkson, the new artist made a stop in her home state of New Mexico for the new Governor’s Inauguration. Newly elected Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham was sworn in on Tuesday, Jan. 1 and Chevel was there to perform at the political event.
Dressed in an elegant white lace gown, Chevel took the stage, surrounded by politicians and their family and friends, to sing the patriotic song during the private ceremony. Singing a capella, Chevel’s vocals that were prominent on “The Voice” seemed to shine even brighter during this performance.
As the song ended, the crowd erupted in thunderous applause for the 16-year-old. Chevel is still trying to process all that is going on following her win on “The Voice,” however she has revealed that she will head to the studio with Kelly soon.

“I’m gonna go home and hang out with all the people that are in my town and just thank them personally,” Chevel revealed. “Then I’m going to start working on an album with Kelly.”
That performance was thanks enough.
