Chris Stapleton played with Guns N’ Roses? Yep. That’s a thing that happened.
The singer-songwriter opened the
Guns N’ Roses Nashville stop of their Not in This Lifetime tour.
“When I was a kid, if you’d have told me I’d be up here playing before Guns N’ Roses, I’d have called you a liar,” Stapleton told the crowd
Rolling Stone Country reports.
Stapleton not only opened for the legendary group, but he and producer Dave Cobb also met the famed Axl Rose.
“Axl’s assistant contacted Dave and wanted us to both come back there, and we brought our wives back and said hey. It was cool,” Stapleton told
Rolling Stone Country. “He was great. Very polite and gracious and we got to say hi for a few minutes. I’m sure he was tired and had to go get cleaned up before the buses or planes rolled out, but he was a gentleman and we had a brief conversation about music and both went on our way. It was a good night.”
As for the set, he has his own barometer for how the GNR fans accepted him. “Nobody threw anything at us, so I think that was a victory,” he said with a laugh.
“You’re standing up there looking at all their stuff and you watch their set after and it’s just a remarkable thing,” he added. “It was one of those moments where you get to be a kid again.”
