When listening to a Chris Stapleton song, you have to prepare yourself to be hit by a wave of deep emotion. Whether that’s sad, happy, sappy, angry or hopeful, Chris has a way of making you feel emotions you may have even forgotten you have.
But even for Chris, “Fire Away” is a doozy.
A song about fighting with someone you love and the feeling you get when they say something sharp-tongued or mean to you, the lyrics of “Fire Away” are relatable to anyone who has been in a passionate relationship.
The accompanying music video, which follows a dysfunctional couple whose marriage is falling apart because of the curse of depression, is sure to make you cry — or sob uncontrollably, more like. Chris himself only appears in the video during a brief cameo as a bartender, making the video solely about the couple.
Beyond serving as a visual accompaniment to Chris’ song, this music video aims to bring attention to the culture of mental health awareness throughout the country, specifically through The Campaign to Change Direction (www.changedirection.org).
