As family, friends and band members gathered inside the Grand Ole Opry to celebrate and remember the life of Troy Gentry, who was killed in a helicopter crash at the age of 50, tributes from across the country continued to pour in.

During a show in Cincinnati, Chris Stapleton did his part to pay tribute to the Opry member by playing his version of Montgomery Gentry‘s “Hillbilly Shoes.”

The song was the duo’s lead single from their debut album in 1999. Stapleton played a long guitar intro to the MG classic before rolling into his “Nobody To Blame.”

Famously, Gentry and Stapleton both grew up in Kentucky, making the tribute even more special.
