We are still two weeks away from the release of Chris Stapleton’s highly anticipated From A Room: Volume 2, but that doesn’t mean he is waiting to release the music. Stapleton has already released two songs, “Millionaire” and “Scarecrow In The Garden,” and now has released a third: the whiskey soaked and mournful “Trying To Untangle My Mind.”

Written by Stapleton, Jaron Boyer and Kendell Marvel, the song sounds like a lonesome figure at the bar spilling his heart out to a stranger. The song, pulling from influences in southern rock and vintage Nashville country highlights Stapleton’s award winning vocals as he is backed by his wife, Morgane.

Well I’ve drank a lot of whiskey in my time

And I’ve held a lot of women that were fine

And I’ve made a little money, I blew every dime

Trying to untangle my mind

Well I’ve made a lot of choices that were wrong

Let a good love spend too many night alone

I’ve been out on the edge and I’ve stumbled across the line

Trying to untangle my mind

So if you see me

And I’m lonesome and stoned

So far down the devil is looking high

I’m just trying to untangle my mind

Well I do what I do and I don’t know why

But I do what I do ’til the day I die

No heartache for the ticket so I guess I’ll pay the fine

Trying to untangle my mind

If you see me

And I’m lonesome and stoned

So far down the devil is looking high

I’m just trying to untangle my mind

Yes, I’m trying to untangle my mind
