Throughout the 49-year history of the CMA Awards, 32 different Entertainer of the Year winners have been crowned. No winner has ever won the award more than three times in a row with Alabama doing it in 1982, 1983 and 1984, while Kenny Chesney took it home in 2006, 2007 and 2008 (he also won in 2004, tying him for most category wins with Garth Brooks).

Only seven women have ever won, with Loretta Lynn taking it home first in 1972. Barbara Mandrell was the first and only female back-to-back winner in 1980 and 1981, Taylor Swift is the only other repeat female winner with her wins coming in 2009 and 2011.

George Strait won the award in 1989 and 1990 and again in 2013, giving him the most years between category wins. If Brooks wins this year he will only have gone 18 years between category wins.

Alan Jackson won the award in back-to-back fashion in 2002 and 2003 by wearing the same jacket.

Someone from Tennessee has taken the award home 10 times and an Oklahoman has won eight times.

During this year’s 50th Annual CMA Awards seven previous CMA Entertainer of the Year winners will take the stage to perform, plus performances from Vince Gill, Brad Paisley, Garth Brooks, Luke Bryan, Tim McGraw and Keith Urban.
