Backstreet Boys, Nelly and P!nk Have No.1 Country Hits, Here Are 7 Artists Who Don’t

-

Last week, the Backstreet Boys ascended to the top of the country music charts with Florida Georgia Line. “God, Your Mama, and Me” is one of the worst songs ever released to country radio, but it still peaked at the top. Last summer, P!nk joined Kenny Chesney on a No. 1 country hit, “Setting the World on Fire.” And, then, of course there’s Nelly. He had a No. 1 hit on the Pop Chart with Tim McGraw in 2005 and is a part of the highest-selling country music single of all-time.

For FGL’s part, they have performed their tunes live with their counterparts several times. Pink and Kenny never did and likely never will. I’m guessing McGraw and Nelly never actually met.

Is this a problem? Yes and no.

No, because it’s expanding country music’s footprint. More people are being exposed to the genre. That’s always a good thing.

But, yes, it’s a problem because there are a number of artists out there who don’t have No. 1 hits, much less any radio airplay whatsoever.

This list doesn’t count Billboard‘s Hot Country Songs Chart, which equates to radio airplay, sales data and streaming.

7 Artists Who Don’t:

1. Kacey Musgraves
That’s right the CMA Song of the Year, “Follow Your Arrow” barely cracked the Top 40.

2. Brandy Clark
The all-genre GRAMMY nominee for Best New Artist barely got her Jay Joyce produced “Girl Next Door” into the Top 40 in 2016. This was coming off a Chris Stapleton-like spike following her GRAMMY performance with Dwight Yoakam.

3/4. Jason Isbell/Sturgill Simpson
LOL. Never even charted.

5. Chris Stapleton
Nope. He did get a Top 10 with “Nobody to Blame” though.

6. Maren Morris
“My Church” was nominated for every award in the history of music and peaked at No. 9.

7. Dwight Yoakam
Several clocking in at No.2, but none at the top.

Lauren Cowling
Born and raised in the South, Lauren grew up going to football games with her family and eating overcooked steak. When not writing, Lauren enjoys reading biographies, searching for pictures of puppies on the internet and drinking Sprite.
