Just recently, I had the opportunity to talk to Dan Smyers from Dan + Shay about the duo’s new hit single, “Tequila.” As we were finishing up our chat, I asked him if I could take up a few more minutes of his time and discuss his work (and wife Abby’s) with Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue in Nashville. What followed was much more than a few minutes and a surface-level chat. I was blown away by the passion in his voice and his conviction to make sure his words line up with his actions when he speaks about the giving of his time to rescuing dogs. (Really, that’s another story for another day.)

Even more recently, Dan and Abby were back in rescue action as they saw a dog narrowly dodging Nashville traffic. The couple shared about the incident on Instagram and it’s quite a tale (or tail, if you like dog jokes).

Abby shared, “Dan and I saw this precious boy running down the median on a highway exit. We followed him but he wanted nothing to do with us. Fortunately for us, he ran into a yard that was partially fenced and we were able to secure this TERRIFIED baby. He was not going anywhere so we had to call Metro Animal Control. So grateful to the officer who helped get him to safety as well as a wonderful couple, strangers who are now friends, who stopped as well and stayed to help the entire time (@michaelhba @lindseybpearsall). I didn’t want to post anything until I was certain because anything can happen with a stray baby BUT this boy (who we have been calling Jeff after the small world realization that Michael and Lindsey know our friend @jeffjuliano…who lives in DELAWARE y’all…crazy) will officially be a Proverbs dog!!!! I am in tears typing this because thanks to @proverbs1210animalrescuehe is getting a second chance at the life he deserves and we will be picking him up tomorrow from animal control so he can start his journey!! He’s going to need some TLC before he can be adopted but we will keep everyone updated on his progress!! Everything about this rescue was fateful.” Dan’s story was a little less detailed, but still compelling.

And now, Jeff (the dog) ha a very happy ending. The Smyers are taking him in for a few days before he heads to Proverbs to be adopted. Just look at how happy he is.
