In 2012, country artist David Nail took a brave leap in covering pop sensation Adele‘s classic “Someone Like You.”

Although the song is usually known for showcasing Adele’s powerful vocals and smooth, soulful tones, David totally transformed the hit into something perfectly twangy and countrified — and it was awesome. The cover was so awesome, in fact, that it gained David a lot of recognition and left fans craving more. So, when Adele’s latest album 25 came out, the requests for David to cover one of the new songs came pouring in, but, this time, the thought of tackling another Adele hit scared him.

“They’re extremely difficult, most importantly,” David told Rolling Stone. “And [“Someone Like You”] happened really organically and spur of the moment, so I just felt like, ‘I don’t want to do one for the sake of doing it.'”

But, even though he was a little apprehensive, David picked up a copy of 25, gave it a listen and found himself inspired by the album’s second song on the track list “Send My Love (To Your New Lover).”

“When I heard the song we ended up covering, it was so unlike anything that I felt like she had done before, sound-wise,” he said. “My initial reaction was, ‘If I’m gonna do one, this has go to be it… Something I’ve always prided myself in is putting the listener in that moment that you’re singing about and letting them feel that raw emotion, and Adele’s the best I’ve ever heard.”

Well, after listening to David’s cover of the song (on repeat for the entire day), it’s obvious that he knows his way around an Adele song. And, in our opinion, he should keep pumping out the covers.
