David Nail has one of the most underrated voices in country music. Luckily for fans, the CMA knows all about it.

Nail, as a part of the Forever Country Cover Series, took to the studio for one incredible cover of Vince Gill‘s “When I Call Your Name.” Nail’s homage to the legendary tune is skilled, subtle and almost perfect. Somehow, Nail captures the raw emotions of Gill’s heartbreaking tune.

“When I Call Your Name” was originally released in 1990 and was written by Gill and Tim DuBois. Patty Loveless provided backing vocals on the original track, which also won CMA Single of the Year in 1990 and Song of the Year in 1991.

Gill’s original version is still pretty good too.
