Dierks Bentley Shares Thoughtful “Here on Earth” for Las Vegas Shooting Victims on the Bobby Bones Show

-

More often than not, Dierks Bentley is known for his hilarious on-stage antics with songs like “Drunk On a Plane” or “Somewhere On a Beach,” but his catalog is full of several thoughtful and meaningful tunes, too.

Bentley took to the Bobby Bones Show to share, “Here On Earth,” a song he wrote after his dad died. He also shared that the end of the song came together after the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012.

Bones hosted a number of country music artists to come and perform in the aftermath of the Route 91 Harvest festival shootings in Las Vegas.

Bentley shared with Bones, “This is a community– a country music community. The more we can all get together, we all kind of need that. I can’t imagine what a lot of fans are going through. This is a time of getting together and working through this together.”

About the tune, Bentley said, “I wrote this song after my dad passed away and it had a lot of meaning then, this song really came together after the Sandy Hook shooting… each one of those people has a family and a story. It’s really a song about struggling with your faith… because, there are no answers here on earth.”

“Here On Earth Lyrics”:

Standing here on this cold ground
Tears falling down in the dirt
This world keeps spinning round and round but
You’re lying still in the earth

Don’t wanna swim in this darkness
Drown in a whiskey sea
But there’s no making sense of the senseless while this
Pain is killing me

There’s not a stone in my heart I’ve left unturned
Not a piece of my soul that I ain’t searched
The only answer I found for all this hurt
Is there ain’t no answer here on earth

I ain’t the best of believers
Ain’t at the front of the church
I’ve read the words of the teacher but I
Still struggle with what it’s all worth cause

There’s not a stone in my heart I’ve left unturned
Not a piece of my soul that I ain’t searched
The only answer I found for all this hurt
Is there ain’t no answer here on earth

I wish that I could be stronger
I wanna have that kind of faith
But even if I did, I still wonder cause
Nothing would change

You’re gone, you’re gone, you’re gone, you’re gone, you’re gone, mhmm
Cause you’re gone, you’re gone, you’re gone, you’re gone, you’re gone, mhmm
Please, help me believe
I’m on my knees
Help me believe

There’s not a stone in my heart I’ve left unturned
Not a piece of my soul that I ain’t searched
The only answer I found for all this hurt
Is there ain’t no answers here on earth
Down here on earth
There’s no answers here on earth
