Dierks Bentley Flew to Vegas to Hang With First Responders and Victims of the Route 91 Harvest Shooting

The week following the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas has been one of heartache and healing for a lot of people. As his friend Jason Aldean was on stage and good buddy Jake Owen ran to take cover from the gunfire that ultimately claimed 58 lives Dierks Bentley was at home in Nashville. But, the tragedy has affected him deeply.

Last week, while giving blood to help the victims of the shooting, Bentley shared in an Instagram post, “I haven’t really been able to function at all since the shooting. such deep sorrow. sadness. heavy and dark. My relationship with country music fans, as well as my band and my crew’s relationship with them, is something we all cherish so deeply. some of those friendships have been forged for well over a decade. my heart breaks over and over again for all those fans in Las Vegas and their families.” His sentiments have been echoed over and over again by many folks in Nashville.

Before heading to Las Vegas to visit first responders and wounded concert-goers still in the hospital, Bentley told “Extra,” that he’s taking a pause and trying to work out the grief, “Everyone’s pretty shook up about it. Nashville has got a little depressed situation, you know, just trying to take a pause, try to figure out how to feel right now… how to work through the grief.”

But, he also said his live shows will continue, “For me, the whole idea of being on the road, the live show, is to escape reality, to blow off steam. The fans go out there to lose their minds. Music matters.”

In a series of Instagram posts, Bentley shared photos from his evening in Las Vegas the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. Bentley played a private show for first responders and posed for photos.

Of course, he said it helped him as much as anyone, “Thank you @umcsn for letting me stop by and hang with y’all for a little bit. Thank you for sharing your stories and your time. I needed that.”

One doctor shared a photo with Bentley saying, “I’ll be the first to admit it has been a rough week. I’ll never be able to erase what I saw that night, but seeing my patients and our community heal emotionally and physically from this tragedy has renewed my energy to serve. Special thanks to @dierksbentley for stopping by to remind us that #countrymusicheals.”

And, yes, if you’re wondering– Bentley flew himself to Las Vegas. Seemed like a mostly steady landing?
