Growing up, I listened to the Dixie Chicks a lot. I remember hearing about their George W. Bush statements, but was of the opinion that I didn’t have to agree or disagree with any celebrity’s opinion on anything to recognize their talent. In 2003, not too many month after Natalie Maines uttered those infamous words, I remember exactly where I was the first time I heard Beyonce’s “Crazy in Love.” I was a Destiny Child’s fan and all, but this was different. Bey had dropped wet blanket Michelle and BFF Kelly– she was about to take over the world.
If you would’ve told me in 2003 I would some day be at the CMA Awards and have a total meltdown upon Beyonce taking the stage with the Dixie Chicks I would’ve said, “sure, that seems likely,” but I wouldn’t have ever thought of it again.
And then, in 2016 if you would’ve told me the Dixie Chicks would go back out on tour in North America for the first time in over a decade and continue to perform that Beyonce song I’d say, “video or it didn’t happen.”
And now, there is a video. And it’s good.
I’m going to show it to my dad. He loves Beyonce.
Also, the studio version of Beyonce and the Dixie Chicks singing “Daddy Lessons” is on Spotify.
