Dolly Parton’s brother, Floyd Estel Parton, passed away on December 6. He was 61 years old.
According to Floyd’s obituary, Dolly’s younger sibling loved the outdoors and was an incredible cook. He also had a knack for songwriting, like his big sister. Floyd wrote the song “Rockin’ Years,” a 1991 No. 1 duet recorded by Dolly Parton and Ricky Van Shelton and “Nickels and Dimes,” recorded by Dolly.
Floyd is survived by his siblings Willadeene Parton, David Parton, Dolly, Bobby, Stella, Cassie Griffith, Denver, Randy, Freida, Rachel and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Stella Parton took to Instagram on the day of her brother’s death, posting a photo of the two along with a sweet message.
“I am spending the day with my beautiful brother Floyd,” she wrote. ‘I can see the light of a clear blue morning and everythingis gonna be alright it’ll be okay.'”
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Sevierville’s My People Senior Activity Center in Sevierville, Tenn.
