We all owe a debt to Fred Foster.

Not only was he instrumental in country music as a songwriter, producer and label head, but he signed Dolly Parton to her first record deal on his Monument Records.

Foster was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame on Oct. 16 and Parton was on hand to pay tribute to him.

“You really gave me a shot … you started my life,” Parton said to Foster. “You started me with my first record. You saw things in me that nobody else did. I hope that I did you proud.”

She then launched into her first single, “Dumb Blonde.”
